Yoga for the Current SignTM
Scorpio I Pelvis
October 23 I November 21
Body Zodiac Correlations
Traditional body-zodiac correlations tell us that
Scorpio rules the pelvis. There, in the pelvic area,
lie two keys to life’s mastery and success.
The first key is simply your breath.
The body is equipped with two
diaphragms - one in the chest, the
other in the floor of the pelvis.
Conscious breathing always
enhances prana, life force,
because prana rides on the
breath. Guiding inhalation and
exhalation through the diaphragm
in the pelvic floor as well as the
chest doubles your capacity for
conscious breathing, which doubles
your conscious connection to prana,
enhancing your connection to life.
How Scorpionic of us to breathe the
pelvic diaphragm and embrace more
and more zesty, zingy life!
Subtle Body
The second key to success lies nestled in the lowly
tailbone. This humble little bone is home base to your
first chakra, the muladhara, the pivot point and very
center of your body. The first chakra controls the
entire physiological system through a complex
system of energy channels. Ancient sages claim the
muladhara is the seat of power behind the mind, the
senses, in fact every bit of activity is powered in this
chakra. The sages also say the muladhara chakra is
-and this is my favorite part- the source of all bliss.
Cobbler pose, Baddha Konasana, is a great posture to
tap into your first chakra. Seat yourself on a bolster or
on the earth, put the soles of your feet together, and
allow your knees to fall gently away from one another.
This creates a natural opening for your pelvic area to
receive your breath. YogastrologyTM yoga class for
Scorpio on iTunes gives
instructions for cobbler
pose and once you're there, breathe the pelvic diaphragm,
stimulating prana or life force, guiding it to your first chakra.
Then universal life force supports your individual mind and
senses, your every activity, your bliss. Nice way to be
supported, yes?
Chin Mudra
Mudras are gestures that symbolize various states of
consciousness, and doing a mudra leads you to the
state of consciousness that mudra represents. In
other words, you can alter your consciousness just by
doing a mudra. Let’s invite an extra dose of juice to
flow in the cobbler pose by adding chin mudra.
All you do to invoke the power of this mudra is touch
the tip of your thumb (which represents your
willpower) to the tip of your index finger (representing
the mind and the power of thought) as illustrated here,
and place your hands on your knees in cobbler pose.
Touching your knees activates the energy channel
running along your inner thighs into your pelvic floor,
further enhancing first chakra stimulation. The
pristine beauty of chin mudra lies in the fact that you
can do it anytime, day or night, to yoke your individual
will to the power of universal wisdom.
Planetary Alignment
In Scorpio, the heat gets cranked up and passions race
along the river of life. Cooperating with the mighty planetary
team of Pluto and Mars, co-rulers of Scorpio, means you can
give more, and get more, especially in the area of your life
where Scorpio reigns (have a personal > consultation to
learn more). Mars, the planet of aggression, supplies the
necessary energy to seize the day, and Pluto works
underground to assist. This team is hot and it’s on your
side now.
